Cooking is not everyone’s forte so it’s natural that some people don’t have the gift for being a pro in the kitchen. When you’re not an expert in the kitchen, you are bound to mess things up sometimes. But you shouldn’t be too sad in such instances because these mistakes contribute to your culinary knowledge and allow you to hone your cooking skills. However, not all mistakes are bad, and certainly, not all mistakes are permanent.
Cooking is a learning journey and you get to learn something new every day in the kitchen. With these simple tricks, you can rescue your spoiled dish and save yourself the embarrassment of being labeled as a novice cook.
Here’s how you can rescue the following food items.
1. Brownies
You’ve got your friends coming over and you’ve decided to treat them to your favorite dessert: brownies. So, you make your way to the kitchen to bake some chocolatey goodness, and halfway through its preparation, you realize that the batter isn’t looking as smooth as it should. Chances are, your brownie batter is suffering from a classic case of ‘split brownie batter’ which happens when you add ingredients to hot chocolate. The simplest fix is to add 1-2 tablespoons of chilled milk and whisk the mixture. Your batter will start looking normal once again.
2. Salty Stew
Cooking dinner in a rush and you’ve accidentally added too much salt? That is probably everyone’s worst nightmare because if the salt content goes up just by a little bit, it can ruin an otherwise delicious dish. So, when it comes to salty stew, you’ve got a problem on your hands; but where there’s a will, there is a way. Remove all of the stew’s content such as the meat and vegetables and place them in a separate bowl. Add a raw and peeled potato to the pot and allow it to cook for 30 minutes. The raw potato will absorb the excess salt and just like that, the day is saved!
3. Excessively-whipped Cream
There is a difference between whipped cream and excessivelly-whipped cream. If you’ve reached the latter level, simply add a tablespoon of cold milk and whisk for a while. It should return to normal but, if your whipped mixture is beyond the excessively-whipped whipped cream phase, then you might as well make butter instead.
